Achievements as Medical Education Minister
- In the ten medical college and Hospitals coming under the jurisdiction of the Ministry, medical treatments has been given to as many as 1,97,02,309 out patients and 20,56,500 in patients. 8,03,790 surgeries have been conducted as also 75,275 dialysis. In seven super specialty Hospitals, 26,68,276 out patients, 2,63,470 in patients have been treated besides conducting 1,93,100 surgeries and 47740 dialysis.
- Medical seals in Bangalore medical collect has been got raised from 150 to 250 and also from 100 seats to 150 seats in Mysore medical college. Medical seats from 3665 has been got raised to 6005 covering all the medical colleges.
- Post graduation seats have been got increased from 1305 to 2225 covering all medical colleges. Thus there is an increase of 920 seats for post graduation. The post graduation seats in 10 Govt medical colleges has been increased from 213 to 430.
- Created 1000 new posts in various cadres in Medical education department.
- Given effect the new AICTE pay scale and time bound promotion to all faculties in all Govt and autonomous Medical and dental colleges by earmarking Rs. 150 crores in the budget for the year 2012-13.
- Introduced an act making it mandatory for those securing graduation/post graduation diploma under Govt quota to serve atleast one year in rural areas. The bill has been forwarded to Hon.President for approval. On implementation of this bill, the state will get services of 2000 medical officers in rural areas.
- Stipend has been increased from 8000 to 15000 to internees and from 14000- to 25000 and from 17000 to 30000 to Super specialty courses.
- Generic medical shops have been opened in all Govt medical college and Hospitals. 2,55,683 patients have availed the benefit out of this. Total maximum retail price of the medicines sold to such patients through these shops worked out to 10,75,80,539- but the patients got the medicines by paying Rs. 3,07,11,407-. Thus 7,68,69,132 has been saved to the patients.
- Pediatric centres and nutrition centres have been started in all the Govt medical college Hospitals in the state.
- Post graduation courses in radiology, , community medicine, forensic sciences , bio-chemistry have been re established In the Mysore medical college and research centre
- A super specialty Hospital attached to Bangalore Medical college has been started.
- Enhanced the intake to medical education from 5455 to 6005 and post graduation diploma seats from 1803 to 2225.
- As a one time measure, services of all the non teaching contract workers in Group C cadre in all Govt and autonomous have been made permanent.
- Bio metric system has been introduced in all Hospitals to ensure punctuality in attendance of staff.
- Proposal has been taken up with Union Government for opening of medical colleges during 2013-14 at Tumkur, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar, Haveri, Koppala, Gadag and Madikeri.
- On line Applications have been called for the Nursing seats in respect of Govt quota seats to be filled in 12 Govt and 380 private Nursing schools and introduced the system of counseling for admission for the year 2012-13.
- Jayadeva Cardiology centre Mysore, has been provided with enhanced facility by increasing beds from 75 to 110. 2274 cath lab procedure, 1791 angiogram, 16780 echo cardio gram have been conducted in Jayadeva cardiology centre Mysore. 4402 in patients have been treated and out of this, 2500 patients got treatments at the subsidized rates. In order to provide facility of open heart surgery at this centre, Rs. 70 crores has been allocated for construction of new building in the PK sanitorium premises covering 15 acres.
- Complaints and suggestion boxes have been installed in all Hospitals and at the office of the Minister and Toll free telephone facility has also been established with telephone no. 080-32001111.
- All the centres under the Ministry were being visited by the Minister periodically to oversee the system and to improve the same. Suggestions have been given on the sport to improve the position.
